Today, I had my first taste of the holiday season – it was of the peppermint variety and came wrapped in a beautiful red and white package. I am of course talking about my favorite winter drink of choice: Starbucks’ Peppermint Hot Chocolate.
Only available at certain times of the year, the Peppermint Hot Chocolate signifies winter to me. I look forward to it every year – one because it brings back wonderful memories of winter hot chocolate talks with my mom and two because I feel much less awkward going into Starbucks and ordering hot chocolate when it’s considered a “limited time drink”. I mean, have you ever tried to go into a Starbucks and order something that doesn’t have at least five words in it? I have and let me tell you, people WILL judge you…except during the holidays. Then, ordering a Peppermint Hot Chocolate is socially acceptable, but I digress.
As I was saying, I’m overly excited that the red cup has made its first appearance of the year, as it allows me to get excited for all of the other aspects of winter that I love: driving through the neighborhoods to admire the lights, accessorizing myself in winter couture (I really love my scarves) and belting out the lyrics to classic Christmas songs on my way to work.
Who cares if it’s still in the 50’s in Austin? In my mind, it’s officially winter and I couldn’t be more excited!
